While many things change with age, the importance of skin care never goes away! Find essential tips to keep your skin happy and healthy regardless of age.
Moisturize
Moisturizing is important throughout the year, but it is especially necessary during the winter months. Dry, cold air can damage the skin and leave it irritated. But choosing the moisturizer right for you may be less obvious than needing one.
Thicker moisturizers that help retain hydration and vital ingredients such as hyaluronic acid may be your best option during the winter months to keep your skin happy and healthy.
There is no one-size-fits-all solution; for example, for those with sensitive skin, it is recommended to use an unscented and hypoallergenic moisturizer.
Sunscreen
Sunscreen isn’t just necessary for the summer months. Though the sun may go down earlier during the winter months it can still damage your skin through UV rays. Using sunscreen and reapplying every few hours can help mitigate long-term sun exposure and skin damage.
Avoid Hot Showers
While winter may compel you toward a hot shower, high-temperature water can dry out your skin. They can also further exacerbate skin conditions such as eczema. Showers with moderate to warm temperatures are preferable and can help avoid the skin dryness associated with winter.
Stay Hydrated!
Moisturizers can take care of topical hydration, but water hydrates the skin from within. It is recommended that men have a water intake of approximately 4 liters or about 12 glasses of water per day. In comparison, women should have approximately 3 liters or about 8 glasses of water.
